Liebster Award Nomination

leibsterA big thank you to Johnzelle over at Perfectly Imperfect for nominating me for the Liebster Award.

While the award is no Pulitzer it is a way for bloggers to recognize new voices (typically under 1000 followers) and show their support. With that being said, I choose to accept the nomination and start the long process this nomination entails.

Facts about me:

I am 40 years old but “feel” like I’m in my late 20s to early 30s
I am married with a 4-year-old daughter
I am currently unemployed because I cant figure out what I want to be when I grow up
I suffer from depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and low self-esteem.
I am very interested in spirituality and new ways of thinking
I prefer non-fiction books to fiction
I would rather listen to an audiobook while doing something else than watch TV
I am drawn to creative people but don’t feel creative myself
I value structure and organization because my mind is so chaotic
I would rather choose between 3-5 options than 10-15

Questions I was asked:

What is your ultimate career goal?

I’m not sure. I could literally write a book on why I am not sure. I have a liberal arts education (B.A. Political Science, Philosophy) as well as practical education (A.A. Culinary Arts) however I have felt burned out in the food industry and very few companies are looking for deep thinkers these days.

Cats or dogs?

I would love to add a dog to the family in the future.

What’s your favorite album?

I would have to go with Hot Fuss by the Killers. It came out around the same time I was going through one of the most challenging times of my life. The music resonated with me at the time and still serves as a reminder of how far I have come when I hear songs from that album.

What’s your favorite TV show?

Picking a favorite TV show is challenging for me since I don’t watch television in a traditional way. My wife and I will sometimes share a show (we just started The Ranch on Netflix) while I will go on mini-binges every few months and barely watch in between. (I’m currently letting the latest seasons of Westworld and Handmaid’s Tale gather episodes.) I have also been waiting forever for the Sense8 final episode which was just released a few days ago, yet I still haven’t made time to watch it.

How do you want to change the world?

I wouldn’t say I want to change the world but rather inspire people to live their best life simply by being authentic and bucking social norms that we must portray a life where everything is perfect. We all struggle in our own ways. Take Anthony Bourdain, I thought he was living a life dreams were made of yet for him it was a life of pain he could not take anymore. I want to encourage people to be real and share their truths.

What inspired you to start a blog?

I needed an outlet to get my thoughts out. I don’t have any friends that I see in “real life.” I keep in touch with important people from my past via social media and have a handful of acquaintances but there is nobody currently I can call up and say “hey, lets grab a beer.”

What is your favorite blog moment or interaction?

I love when people interact with something I have posted in general be it on the post, on social media, or direct contact. For me it shows something I have shared about myself has deeply resonated with them. While I am uncomfortable with common courtesy and small talk, I absolutely adore deeper interactions.

Are you an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?

I am the poster child for an introvert!

Best vacation: Cruise ship, mountain cabin getaway, or weekend in NYC?

While they all would be amazing, if I have to choose between the three with my family, I would go with NYC because there are so many experiences to jam into one weekend. From Broadway shows, restaurants, and general experiences (art, stroll in Central Park, etc.). I’m not really a lay on the pool deck guy while the cabin I would rather take as a solo trip.

Describe your blog in six words.

My nominees (sort of):

Here is where it gets tricky for me. Since I am so new to the blogging scene I have not been exposed to many voices. I have however accumulated a small list of favorite blogs I anticipate new posts from.

Small Blogs:
Being Dead Inside
How I Killed Betty
Boiled Apple

Big Blogs:
Defining Yellow
Beauty Beyond Bones

  1. Great answers! Great getting to know more about you and I enjoyed checking out the “small blogs” you mentioned. As a classic introvert myself, I have found blogging to be a great way for social interaction on a deeper level that goes beyond “small talk,” like you said. Take care
